My TTC Journey

This is getting long...here's the abbreviated version:

June 2012 - May 2013: TTC naturally. Dx with PCOS and anovulation
May - Nov 2013: Medicated cycles always ending with no/poor response to meds
Nov 2013: IVF #1 led to pregnancy!
Mar 2014: Lost our sweet baby at 20weeks PG (TFMR due to severe Spina Bifida & Hydrocephalus)
June - July 2014: Started ovulating naturally for the first time ever. Began TTCAL on our own while planning FET #1 .
Aug 2014: Miracle BFP on a med-free cycle!
Mar 2015: Found out at 36w PG that our son has a form of dwarfism but doctors unable to confirm what type until after he is born
Apr 2015: Jack is born HEALTHY on April 9th at 39 weeks via c-section! Achondroplasia (most common form of dwarfism) confirmed a few weeks later.
The Present: Just trying to figure out where to go from here and if/how/when we may add to our family.

 Extended version:

June 2012: Started officially TTC. Took about a billion HPTs because I had no idea how my body worked yet.

July & Aug 2012: Got smart and started charting temps, CM & OPKs. Cycle ended naturally but no indication of ovulation.

Aug, Sept, Oct, Nov, Dec 2012: 121 day cycle, anovulatory, ended with Provera. Actually charted for the entire 4 months to confirm anovulation. Discovered I get lot of LH surges throughout my cycles leading me to think I'm going to O but I never do. Diagnosed with PCOS by my ob/gyn in Nov.

Dec, Jan, Feb, Mar 2013: 85 day cycle, anovulatory, ended with Provera. Had b/w done (basically okay - high androgen levels, consistent with PCOS).

Mar, Apr, May 2013: 60 day cycle, anovulatory, ended with Provera. Cycle started with 18 days of bleeding - fun.  Met with RE in March. Completed all testing: good HSG, U/S & SA results! B/W was decent. Started Metformin, 1500mg/day.  Tried acupuncture. Trying to lose weight to encourage O.

May & June 2013: Clomid 50mg + TI = No response to meds. More Provera!

June & July 2013: Clomid 100mg + TI = No response to meds. More f$%@in' Provera. Started really focusing on being as healthy as possible/losing weight.

July & Aug 2013: Clomid 150mg + TI = Poor response to meds, canceled trigger.  RE recommended moving to IVF next cycle. While waiting for authorization paperwork to clear, I O'd on my own for the first time ever! (Irony!) Ended in a BFN but totally threw me for a loop and made me reluctant to move on to IVF next cycle. Decided to try for one more medicated cycle.

Sept 2013: Letrozole + TI = Poor response to meds, canceled trigger. Waited it out to see if I'd have another miracle O but no luck so more Provera.

Oct & Nov 2013: IVF cycle #1!  Meds: 4 wks Emoquette (BCPs), Lupron, Gonal-F, Novarel, Crinone. Egg Retrieval was on 11/22 where they retrieved 24 eggs (!!), 14 of which fertilized.  5-day transfer of one grade 7 blastocyst on 11/27 and 3 additional embryos made it to freeze.  Ended up with a moderate case of OHSS which sucked but was worth it because BFP on 12/5/13!!! EDD: 8/15/14

Nov, Dec, Jan, Feb, Mar 2014: 5 blissful months of pregnancy, excitement, puking and love.

March 2014: Learned that our precious baby (our little Petey Nugget) had severe physical and mental deformities due to Spina Bifida and Hydrocephalus and would not make it :'-(
D&E at 20 weeks pregnant. Said goodbye to our sweet angel on March 27, 2014.

June 2014: Started TTC again on our own. Scared to death.  BFN on naturally ovulatory cycle.

July 2014: Back to the RE to begin work up for FET #1 ( planned for August) and learned I now have high blood pressure. FET on hold until I can lose 20 lbs and bring down BP. Still TTC on own and actually ovulated again! Hoping for a miracle BFP.

Aug 2014: MIRACLE BFP on 8/6/14!!! EDD: 4/17/15.  Praying for a healthy baby.

Aug, Sept, Oct, Nov, Dec, Jan, Feb, Mar 2015: A whole lotta pregnancy with a whole lotta symptoms.

Mar 2015: Found out at 36 weeks pregnant that our son has a skeletal dysplasia (aka: a form of dwarfism). Drs unable to confirm which type or how severe his complications will be until he is born. Still just praying for a healthy baby.

Apr 2015: Baby Jack born via c-section on 4/9/15!!! 9lbs, 6oz and HEALTHY!!  Genetic testing begins so we can figure out what type of dwarfism he has.  Doctors' preliminary diagnosis is Achondroplasia, the most common type.

  1. Just reading through your blog now and I am so very sorry for the loss of your Petey that you experienced earlier this year. There are so many similarities between our stories and the timing. And I know how scary and emotional a new pregnancy can be. You're in my thoughts.

  2. Just found your blog. I'm sorry for your loss. I too had a late term loss at 21 weeks. Our baby was born sleeping on September 30th, 2014. I hope you are doing well and that everything is going like planned with this pregnancy. I'll be following your journey!
